Comics gig for their old schoolmates

Six Irish comics are visiting their old schools to perform a gig in front of their old classmates and teachers.

The shows are being recorded for a new show on RTE1 – and the format could be coming to Britain.

Steve Coogan’s production company Baby Cow has brought the rights to the show, and will be pitching the idea to UK broadcasters.

Acts taking part in the Irish version, due to air later this month, include Frank Carson, Jason Byrne, Karl Spain and Deirdre O'Kane.

The format has also been sold to New Zealand and Australia.

Yvonne Pilkington, whose company Eyeworks Distribution brokered the international deals, said: ‘Class Clowns is a fantastically simple notion.

‘It not only allows broadcasters to get stand-up on schedules in an original and compelling format, but also acts as a catch-all for various comedy styles.

‘Most countries have comedians - and most of them went to school - so we're extremely excited about its international potential.’
