Linda's radio honour

Smith inducted into hall of fame

Linda Smith has posthumously been inducted into the UK radio hall of fame.

The comic, who died in February aged 48, was honoured by the Radio Academy at a ceremony earlier this week.

Her long-term partner Warren Lakin was there to collect the award, and accepted it by reciting one of Smith’s routines about cricket chants.

The hall of fame was set up by the academy to recognise those who have made an ‘outstanding contribution’ to the industry.

Several comics from radio’s ‘golden age’ were also inducted into the hall of fame at the Savoy Hotel ceremony: Al Read, Betty Marsden, Hattie Jacques and Jimmy Clitheroe.

Others similarly honoured included agony aunt Anna Raeburn, Sir Jimmy Saville and Simon Mayo.
