David Walliams goes straight

Drama role fort Little Britain star

David Walliams is to take a major straight acting role in two new BBC films by writer and director Stephen Poliakoff.

The big budget dramas will go out across BBC1 and BBC2 and are both set in the same grand but empty town house.

Michael Gambon will play the home\'s reclusive billionaire owner in the main yet-to-be-titled film on BBC1, while Walliams will play a ‘supremely charming but subtly evil man’ in a BBC2 companion piece, called apturing Mary.

He will start opposite Maggie Smith, whose character looks back on the history of the house through a series of flashback.

Poliakoff told the Guardian that Walliams won the role over several more established actors, adding: ‘He\'s playing a slightly creepy character and he\'s got such a wonderful period face.’
