ITV1 orders Benidorm sitcom

ITV has ordered its first new sitcom in three years.

Benidorm, which will be broadcast on ITV1 next year, will be based around the package holiday industry

The show was written Derren Litten, who also worked on The Catherine Tate Show, and its ensemble cast will include The League Of Gentlemen's Steve Pemberton.

It is ITV's first new sitcom commission since Hardware, starring Martin Freeman, and the first ordered by the the channel's new omedy and entertainment director Paul Jackson.

Benidorm will be made by independent producer Tiger Aspect, and executive produced by the company’s head of comedy, Sophie Clarke-Jervoise.
