Simpsons guest stars named

Natalie Portman, Kiefer Sutherland, the White Stripes and Dr Phil will be among the guest voices on the next season of The Simpsons.

The 18th series kicks off in the US on September 10, and in the second episode The White Stripes play a benefit gig Bart organises for himself after his arm is mangled by a tiger Lisa rescued from the local pound.

Dr Phil guest stars alongside comedian Richard Lewis in a Halloween episode to air on November 5; while Sutherland plays a hard-nosed colonel when Homer undergoes Army training on November 12.

Also paying a visit to Springfield will be authors Tom Wolfe, Gore Vidal and Jonathan Franzen.

In May, the series will notch up its 400th episode.
