'I feel like death'

O'Grady leaves hospital

Paul O'Grady left hospital yesterday after surviving his second heart attack in four years – and immediately vowed to give up cigarettes

The Liverpudlian comedian, 51, said: ‘I'm so happy to get out of hospital but I feel like death.’

And of his 40-a-day habit, he said: 'I'm definitely going to give up smoking this time.'

He was rushed to hospital after having chest pains at his Kent farmhouse on Friday and given a minor emergency operation to help with his blood flow.

The comic suffered his first heart attack in 2002, and he said then that the scare forced him to review his lifestyle and give up smoking.

However he took up cigarettes again after the death of his former lover Brendan Murphy in June last year.

A Channel 4 spokeswoman said she hoped O’Grady would make a full recovery by the time his daytime show is due to return in September.
