Pinnacle of creativity

Little Britain tops survey

Little Britain has been named the most creative comedy programme of the last 12 months.

Industry experts at Broadcast magazine also ranked the show the second-most creative across all genres, based on its success at awards ceremonies.

The paper said Matt Lucas and David Walliams ‘captured the zeitgeist of a nation bored with run-of-the-mill sitcoms’, adding: ‘Their combination of politically incorrect humour, catchphrase comedy and outlandish characters hit the target market square on.’

Second-placed programme was Armando Iannucci’s political satire The Thick Of It, with commentators saying: ‘Its fast, documentary-style camerawork and reliance on improvisation make it truly cutting edge’.

The Catherine Tate show was third, while BBC One was named the most creative channel in terms of comedy, ahead of second-placed BBC Three. Beating Little Britain to the title of most creative programme, by a clear margin, was the Channel 4 drama Sex Traffic.

The top ten most creative comedies were

1. Little Britain

3. The Catherine Tate Show
