Python musical heads for Vegas

Monty Python's Spamalot is to transfer to Las Vegas – just as soon as a theatre is built to house it.

The hit Broadway musical will also have to be cut from two hours to 90 minutes before opening at the Wynn Las Vegas casino, where it will be performed 12 times a week.

It is scheduled to open in 2007, once the venue’s 1,600-seat theatre is complete, and the terms of the deal allow it to play for up to a decade.

Casino entrepreneur Steve Wynn said: ‘We've had spectacle and great concerts [but] one of the things I've missed in Las Vegas is wit - something that is really funny.'

The New York version -  which won three Tony Awards this year, including best musical – will be touring the States, but it won’t visit California, Nevada or Arizona according to the terms of the new deal.

There is no news yet on a mooted transfer to Britain.
