I quit... or do I?
Comic baffles his radio audience
Comic Toby Foster stunned listeners to his Radio Sheffield show by announcing he was quitting live on air.
But after the shock statement, he played a record and said nothing more about it for the rest of his morning show.
He later said he made a mistake and would be staying at the station, telling Chortle: ‘I just kind of got carried away.’
During his show on Thursday, he announced that he and his wife Nicky were expecting their second baby and added: ‘The other good news is that I'm leaving.’
But his BBC bosses said he was under contract and wouldn’t be going anywhere – even though he ‘often’ made comments to that effect.
A spokesman said: ‘The facts are that Toby has a contract with the BBC to present the morning programme and will continue to do that for the foreseeable future.’
Foster – the regular compere at Sheffield’s Last Laugh comedy club and organiser of the city’s new two-week comedy festival in October, Grin Up North – hosts a daily show on Radio Sheffield from 8.30am to 11am.Published: 11 Jul 2005
