Street's ahead

US cinemas to air Stella special

The feature-length version of Stella Street is to be released in cinemas in America.

Distributors Strand Releasing has bought the US rights to the BBC comedy about A-list celebrities living in suburbia and plans to release it in October.

The film was recently shown at the Aspen Comedy Arts Festival, the industry beano where deals are often struck, and where stars Phil Cornwell and John Sessions shared a best actor award.

Strand boss Marcus Hu told trade journal Variety that the film, which also starred Ronni Ancona, was “a uniquely comic observation of the other side of celebrity".

The film was shown on BBC2 over Easter, and is now available in the UK on DVD. Click here to buy it from Amazon.co.uk
