Bob Grant found in fume-filled car

On The Buses star Bob Grant has been found dead in an exhaust-filled car.

The 71-year-old, who played lecherous conductor Jack Harper in the Seventies sitcom, had suffered depression for years and previously attempted suicide.

In 1987 he disappeared for five days before responding to a public appeal by his wife, Kim.

His was found in the garage of his home in the village of Twyning, near Tewkesbury, on November 8. An inquest has been opened and adjourned.

Coroner's officer Paul Boak said: "A hosepipe connected to the exhaust was fed into the driver's compartment of the car."

Grant's character was the sidekick of driver Stan Butler, played by Reg Varney, who repeatedly foiled Inspector Blakey.
