Tommy's an audience fave

Tiernan scoops Fringe accolade

Tommy Tiernan has been named the audience favourite at this year's Edinburgh fringe.

The Irish comic has won the first Nokia Orange Comedy Award, presented to the most popular comedian at the Assembly Rooms' Best Of The Fest show.

He received the most audience votes in the text message poll.

Tiernan's show at The Pod, Tell Me A Story, also received the Your Call award from the same sponsors for the best fringe show.

He will be collecting his trophy at London's Bloomsbury Theatre next Wednesday as part of week-long Best Of The Fest line-up.

Tiernan said: "The great thing about this award is that you know people have enjoyed your show because they have left it and then voted for you it's a real people's award, so I am really chuffed with this win."

Awards were also announced for Edinburgh's other festivals, withSex And The City author Candace Bushnell winning the book festival award and Young Adam, starring Ewan McGregor, winning the film festival title.
