Clary axes tour dates

Too few bums on seats

Julian Clary has pulled out of two planned shows in the Channel Islands in the face of dismal ticket sales.

The decision, which will cost promoters around £15,000, was made after fewer than one in ten seats had been sold for one show.

Of 2,200 seats available at Jersey's Fort Regent venue on June 14, just 200 had been sold over the past month.

And the situation was similar in Guernsey, with just 300 of the Beau Sejour theatre's 1,500 tickets sold.

Paul Couser of promoters On Stage Events told the Jersey Evening Post: "I'm very surprised - we all thought Julian Clary would be very good business. He's a very popular and well-known comedian.

"I can't blame Islanders and ultimately I have to blame myself because I have to take what I think people want to see. Sometimes it's difficult to make a judgement."
