A degree of bemusement

Izzard baffled by university honour

Eddie Izzard is to receive an honorary degree from the University of East Anglia.

The comic's spokeswoman said he was "delighted but a little bemused" by the accolade.

He is to be made an honorary doctor of letters at the university's Norwich campus in July.

Others to be honoured include Stephen Platten the Dean of Norwich Cathedral; and BBC radio supremo Jenny Abramsky, a USA alumnus.

The university has previously awarded the entire Comic Relief organisation an honorary degree.

Izzard is currently appearing A Day In The Death Of Joe Egg on Broadway, where he has received rave reviews.
