7 up for stand-up

New comedy show for digital radio

BBC 7 is to produce its first original comedy programming, featuring stand-ups new to radio.

The digital speech station broadcasts more than seven hours of comedy a day, but so far its programming has comprised classic re-runs.

But now it is to record seven stand-up shows for broadcast, under the banner Spanking New.

Recording starts in London next Tuesday, with four comics on each bill, and free tickets are available from the BBC Ticket Unit's website.

BBC 7 can be heard on digital radio, on digital satellite and cable and via the internet.
