Talk of a third series

Phoenix Nights could be heading back for a third series.

Writer Dave Spikey, who also plays club compere Jerry St Clair, said another possibility could be a Christmas special.

Peter Kay is currently writing a spin-off series for Channel 4 about bouncers Paddy and Max, touring the country in a camper van.

"But his long-term plan is that they'll come back to The Phoenix after their travels," Spikey told the Manchester Evening News.

"There's talk of a Christmas special, but we've got so many ideas that we haven't even used yet. I know it's a bit of a rule that you set yourself up to be knocked down with a third series, but I think we could do a really good job."

But he admits: "I don't really get a say in it. It's all down to Peter. He's the star, and it's his vehicle."
