Jasper Carrott, OBE

Comedian in New Year's Honours

Jasper Carrott has been awarded an OBE in the New Year's Honours.

The 57-year-old comedian, who has amassed a fortune through his stake in the company behind Who Wants To Be A Millionaire was recognised for his charity work.

He told Ananova: "Obviously, I am absolutely thrilled to receive the OBE but I am also extremely humbled when I think about all the people in the past who have received the same honour.

"I also feel slightly sheepish about it when I consider that so many people have done so much more and have gone unrecognised."

Carrott works for the Variety Club and the NSPCC, as well as supporting various charities in his native Birmingham.
