Fry escapes driving ban

Comic clocked at 99mph

Stephen Fry has been allowed to keep his driving licence, despite being caught speeding at 99mph.

Cambridge magistrates decided not issue him with five points on his licence and a £300 fine

The 45-year-old comedian now has 11 points on his licence, one more and he will be banned.

Also his offence, his second in 13 months, was just 1mph below the speed for an automatic ban.

Fry admitted travelling over the 70mph speed limit on the A11 at Great Wilbraham, Cambridgeshire, on 7 April. He was on his way to perform in the 50th anniversary edition of the radio quiz I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue.

He said: "I was fully expecting a disqualification, so I am very relieved.

"It was a nice Christmas present not to be banned."
