Stella Street leads to Hollywood

Stella Street is to be turned into a $1million Hollywood movie.

John Sessions and Phil Cornwell are to star in the full-length film, which is already halfway through shooting.

And Ronni Ancona will be joining join the cast to handle the female impersonations.

Like the BBC2 show, the film will be co-written and directed by the Comic Strip's Peter Richardson.

The script will explain how the likes of Michael Caine, Mick Jagger and Alec Guinness all ended up living on the same Surbiton street.

Columbia TriStar has stumped up the cash to transfer the cult series, which ran for 36 ten or 15-minute episodes, onto the big screen, Variety reports.

The studio expects the film to do well on DVD, and is recording a lot of extra material for that release.
