Python! The Musical

West End interest in cult films

West End producers are planning a musical based on the work of Monty Python.

Members of the team have held talks with producers about adapting Life Of Brian or Monty Python And The Holy Grail for the theatre.

They are hoping any project could emulate the success of shows such as Broadway show The Producers, based on films audiences are already familiar with.

Roger Saunders of Python (Monty) Pictures told showbiz trade newspaper The Stage: "There have been various stage shows which have been adapted from well-known sources.

"With its high profile, we will not have to explain to audiences what the show is based on, and that is why there as been an interest in Python.

"There has been tentative interest in both films, but it is all at a very early stage. Though it would be fun."

A spokesman for Michael Palin said: "I know they have talked about it. We will see what happens."
