TV host's debut earns a prize

TV presenter Adrian Goldberg has been acclaimed at a comedy talent competition - after his first ever stage appearance.

The Watchdog reporter took third place in the new act contest at the Birmingham Comedy Festival last night.

His stage debut was filmed for a forthcoming documentary following his attempt to break into stand-up after taking advice from the likes of Ed Byrne and comedy writer Ken Rock.

Winner of the competition, judged by a panel of comics and punters at the city's Glee Club, was Rupert Knutt.

"You've heard of Rupert Bear from Nutwood, I'm Rupert Knutt from
Bearwood," said Kutt, referring to the Birmingham suburb.

Second place went to Darren Phillips with Rob Jagger, Wendy House, Brett Sidaway, Andy Richardson and Dean Garbutt the other contestants.

The comedy festival, backed by the Birmingham Evening Mail, runs until Saturday.
