Comedies vie for TV award

Nominees announced

Old will take on new for the title of best comedy in this year's National Television Awards.

Newcomers The Office and 2DTV are up against the long-running Only Fools and Horses in the prestigious accolades.

Billy Connolly's World Tour of England Ireland and Wales completes the shortlist.

In other categories, Sanjeev Bhaskar is in the running for best talk for his spoof The Kumars at No 42. He will be up against such heavyweights as Michael Parkinson and Des O'Connor.

Last year, The Royle Family was named best comedy, with star Ricky Tomlinson best comedy personality.

The full shortlist will be released next week.
