New medical sitcom for Lyndhurst

Nicholas Lyndhurst is to star in a new medical sitcom next year.

Doctors And Nurses has been commissioned by BBC1 from writers Phil Hammond and Nigel Smith.

Hammond is a renowned campaigning medical journalist, who writes for Private Eye and was the first to expose the Bristol heart transplant scandal.

He is also a comedian, having presented Struck Off And Die and 28 Minutes to Save the NHS on Radio 4.

Hammond, still a part-time GP, is also taking a show to the Edinburgh Festival this year, which will then tour the UK.
