New publication for comedy scene

A new magazine dedicated to the British comedy industry will be launched this summer.

Crackin' will be unleased in Edinburgh on August 2 - the day before the Edinburgh Fringe starts.

But around 100,000 copies of a preview edition will be distributed with the late West End Final edition of London's Evening Standard on July 5.

A spokesman for the publishers said: "Our aim is to produce a high-quality, monthly magazine that will serve the needs of the comedy industry, along with its loyal fans.

"It will cover a broad spectrum of the market, from stand-up to theatre, TV, books, films, videos, DVD and animation - and will also serve as a platform for original material written by new talent and established names."

The glossy magazine, which will be around 100 pages, follows in the footsteps of Deadpan and Comedy Review - which were launched and folded in the mid-Nineties.
