Norton dominates Ross

His C4 show wins ratings battle

Graham Norton attracted more viewers to his Channel 4 chat show that Jonathan Ross did on BBC1.

It was hoped that Ross would emulate the success of his popular Radio 2 show on TV.

But the first programme, featuring radio sidekick Andy Davies, was seen by just 3million people.

That was 300,000 fewer than tuned into Norton on "minority" Channel 4, according to unofficial overnight figures.

Norton had a 21 per cent share of the audience at 10.30pm on Friday, compared to Ross's 19 per cent.

A second series of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross has already been commissioned.

Earlier in the evening, Gimme Gimme Gimme made a successful BBC1 debut, attracting 6.6million viewers and a 30 per cent audience share.
