Ken Dodd has been named Britain's best stand-up at The Heritage Foundation Awards for comedy.

Only Fools and Horses scooped the award for best TV comedy at the ceremony, thanks to the votes of Sun readers, with creator John Sullivan winning the TV writing award.

In the radio categories, impressionist show Dead Ringers was named best programme and one of its writers, Dave Cohen, received the award for best young writer. He has also written for Rory Bremner and Radio 4's Sunday Format.

The panel show I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, which features the likes of Barry Cryer and Tim Brooke-Taylor "being given silly things to do" by Humphrey Littleton, won The Comic Heritage Gold Award.

And Coronation Street actor John Savident was named best comic performer in a soap for his role as butcher Fred Elliot.
