Steffen Peddie is a comedian from Newcastle upon Tyne. Before comedy Peddie was a professional wrestler for eight years. He regularly performs at the Funny Bones chain of clubs in the North East and runs the Big Owl Comedy Club in his hometown, but also makes regular appearances at comedy festivals across the UK. He has also supported American wrestler Mick Foley on his UK stand-up tour in 2011, and stars in 2012 BBC2 sitcom Hebburn

BBC launches a new comedy programme for the North East

Hosted by Steffen Peddie

BBC Newcastle is to launch a new comedy programme for the North East called It’s Grin Up North. 

Created by and hosted by stand-up Steffen Peddie, the two-hour show, which starts on Friday August 10 promises gags, sketches and interviews, as well as music and information about the local comedy scene.

Peddie said: ‘It’s great to have this opportunity to present such a ground breaking show for the BBC in the North East. It’s a real hotbed of talent and I’m convinced that we can dig out some genuine comedy diamonds and give comics and writers a real chance to shine.’

Doug Morris, managing editor of BBC Newcastle, added: ‘The show underlines the BBC’s commitment to developing and showcasing new comedy through writing workshops and stand up gigs, providing content for the new show and giving a home to new and upcoming comedy talent.’
