Michelle Wolf studied kinesiology at The College of William & Mary before pursuing comedy in New York City around 2007. She worked as a writer and correspondent on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah from 2016 to 2017 and gained significant attention for her performance at the 2018 White House Correspondents' Dinner, thanks to her withering remarks about the Trump administration.

In 2018, Netflix premiered The Break with Michelle Wolf, a weekly talk show that ran for one season. She has released two stand-up specials for the streaming service: Nice Lady (2017) and Joke Show (2019).

Michelle Wolf to tape HBO special

Directed by Chappelle's Show co-creator

Michelle Wolf is to tape a stand-up special for HBO.

The comedian,  who writes for and appears on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, will record the show in New York  this summer.

She performed her first solo show, So Brave, at the Edinburgh Fringe last year.

Wolf said: ‘What can I say? It’s HBO, it’s a dream. I’m mostly just trying not to get hit by a bus before I tape.’

Nina Rosenstein, executive vice president of HBO Programming, added: ‘Michelle is one of the most inspired comics working today. She is smart, sharp and fiercely funny. We couldn’t be more excited to present her first stand-up special to our audience.’

The special – Wolf's first – will be directed but Neal Brennan, the co-creator of Chappelle’s Show.
