Mo Gilligan became a breakout star through his online videos, notably with his 'Coupla Cans' catchphrase. It led to his own late-night Channel 4 show as well as being a sidekick on The Big Narstie show with the same broadcaster. Originally performing as 'Mo The Comedian', he started in comedy in 2007 and was a finalist in the Laughing Horse new act of the year 2013.

Mo Gilligan to make a documentary about chicken

The fowl effects of mass consumption...

Mo Gilligan is to make a serious documentary about the mass consumption of chicken.

The film is part of the deal the comedian signed with streaming service Netflix back in January.

At the time he said the documentary ‘explores a completely new side of me’, adding that agreement involved ‘pushing myself creatively in ways I never have before’.

Now it has been reported that Gilligan will travel from London to New York to examine what drives our love of the food and its impact on our health and planet.

In a 2021 interview, the stand-up said: ‘I’ve always been surrounded by chicken: jerk chicken, curry chicken, brown stew chicken … what you can do with chicken is so amazing. I tried to be pescatarian, but after six months, I just had to have a massive piece of jerk chicken.

‘How other cultures use this meat fascinates me. If you think you’ve had everything with chicken, someone will show you something you’ve never had before.’

The Sun reports that the show  could air later this year.

The Netflix deal was announced at the same time as his third stand-up special for the platform.   In The Moment dropped in February following  There's Mo To Life in 2022 and Momentum in 2019.

He is currently on tour with his stand-up show The Mo You Know, and has recently added extra dates.
