Two Doors Down to become a stage show
With the original sitcom cast
Hit BBC sitcom Two Doors Down is being turned into a live stage show.
Original cast members including Alex Norton, Arabella Weir, Doon Mackichan and Elaine C. Smith will be taking part at the shows at Glasgow’s Ovo Hydro next September.
It follows the success of the Still Game live show, which ran for 21 dates at the venue in 2014 – expanded from an original run of just four nights. Meanwhile, Johnny Vegas comedy Ideal has just been revived as a stage shows alongside more nostalgic offerings such as Fawlty Towers and the Only Fools and Horses musical.
Also performing in Two Doors Down Live are Graeme ‘Grado’ Stevely, Jamie Quinn, Jonathan Watson, Joy McAvoy and Kieran Hodgson.
Gregor Sharp, who created the show with the late Simon Carlyle, said: ‘It’s always a treat to go to The Hydro to see a show so it’s a dream come true to be bringing Two Doors Down Live to such an amazing venue with the full cast from the TV series.
‘They are an incredible group of performers, and we can’t wait to welcome the audience into Beth and Eric’s where we can guarantee there will be some surprises as well as the odd person behaving entirely true to form!'
Two Doors Down started as a one-off special in 2013 and has since run for 47 episodes over seven series, moving from BBC Tow to BBC One where the last series averaged 2.8million viewers per episode in the month following transmission.
The live show will see all the Latimer Crescent regulars descend on Eric and Beth's house to hear a big announcement from Ian.
Producers say: ‘Speculation is rife as to what it’s about. A trip abroad? A change of career? Or could he and Gordon be finally ready to confirm arrangements for the wedding of the year? Meanwhile, Christine’s got a new obsession, Alan and Michelle have a big night out planned, and Colin and Cathy are up to their usual - looking for a party. When Ian and Gordon arrive, their news takes everyone by surprise - but not as much as when Eric and Beth make an unexpected announcement of their own.’
Mackichan first let slip that a live version of Two Doors Down was in the works last year, when she told the Daily Star: 'We are hoping there will be a live show... a big stage show in an arena. It's not finalised, but we are really hoping it happens.
‘I think it would transfer really well to the stage. Each episode is piece of theatre, like a half-hour So if you did an hour-and-a-half show that was one story, it would be brilliant.’
The show runs at the Ovo Hydro on September 25, 26 and 27 next year, with matinees as well as evening shows on the Saturday and Sunday.
Tickets go on general sale at 10am on October 31 here, with advance sales from the 29th.
