Josh Howie

Josh Howie

Josh is the son of legendary PR guru Lynne Franks, the woman who inspired Jennifer Saunders’ character Edina in Absolutely Fabulous. Raised as a Buddhist this ex-public schoolboy then trained as a Rabbi before being kicked off the programme for being caught with a naked (non-Jewish) girl. He started his own PR firm when he was just 16, received critical acclaim for writing and directing a short film for Channel 4, and has had a number of senior roles in music video production companies. And now he’s decided to settle down and get a proper job – as a stand-up comedian, which started in earnest with his first trip to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2003.

Radio 4 commissions Josh Howie sitcom

Six episodes for 2016

Stand-up Josh Howie has landed his first Radio 4 show.

The BBC has commissioned six half-hour episodes of Josh Howie’s Losing It, which will air in 2016.

A semi-autobiographical sitcom, it follows the life of Josh, a father-to-be, coming to terms with the impending arrival of his and his wife's first baby that will shake up his comfortable life.

Scripts will have Josh stepping out of the action and directly addressing the audience to analyse what’s happening in the plot and his choices.

Each episode also starts with the end of the story and then rewinds to show how Josh, who is constantly falling out with people, ended up in that week’s predicament.

Josh Howie’s Losing It will be produced by Ashley Blaker, who previously co-created BBC Two’s Matt Lucas Awards, for Black Hat Productions.

The series, expected to air in an 11pm slot, will be recorded in front of an audience at the end of the year.

Howie, whose fourth solo show Aids: A Survivor's Story is on at the Soho Theatre in London next week, has previously appeared on Beyond Belief and 4 Stands Up on Radio 4, but this is his first starring project for the station.
