Gary Little

Gary Little

Date of death: 15-08-2025

Gary Little began performing comedy in 2003, when he became a finalist in a competition run by The Stand comedy club and the Daily Record. He performed his first one-man show at the Glasgow Comedy Festival in 2005.

In 2007, he was briefly jailed for stealing books from the HarperColins warehouse near Glasgow, where he worked as a forklift truck driver, netting £100,000 from selling them cheaply on eBay. His prison experiences formed the basis of his 2009 Edinburgh Fringe show He Was Only Jail Gay.

He died while walking in the mountians in August 2025.

Fundraising memorial gig set

The Scottish comedy community is staging a memorial fundraising gig in honour of Gary Little, following his death last month.

The stand-up died on August 15 at the age of 61 as a result of a fall while hillwalking along the  Five Sisters of Kintail trail in the Northwest Highlands.

Now his colleagues have organised a gig at The Stand in Glasgow on September 25, raising money for mentoring charity MCR Pathways, which Little volunteered for.

The venue said: ‘We are still coming to terms with the sudden loss of Gary Little. Come join us to pay tribute to, remember and celebrate the life of this giant of Scottish comedy.’

Those taking part include Chris Forbes, Julia Sutherland, Ray Bradshaw, Graham Mackie, Rosco McClelland, Vladimir McTavish, Amanda Dwyer, Scott Agnew, Liam Farrelly and Jay Lafferty.

Over three years, Little mentored three young people from Whitehill and All Saints secondary schools in Glasgow through MCR Pathways.

When his death was announced, the charity’s CEO, Sharon McIntyre,   said: ‘Gary gave his time, heart, and humour to support young people in his local community, inspiring them to believe in themselves and their potential.

‘His kindness, passion, and unwavering commitment will leave a lasting mark on everyone he met. He will be profoundly missed.

‘His impact is his legacy and that will live on in the many young lives he helped shape and, indeed, transform through the power of mentoring.’

The Glasgow Stand has just moved into the former Lansdowne Church – previously Websters Theatre – following 25 years in the basement of a former school in Woodlands Road. The new venue is about 100 yards away on Great Western Road.

Tickets for the gig are available here, priced £15.
