Four-part show coming to Channel 4 soon

Bill Bailey is to front a new travel series, filmed in the remote wilderness of Western Australia

The comic taped the four-part series this summer, taking a 15,000-mile journey through the vast state’s inland and coastal regions.

During filming, he said: ‘I don't think there's anywhere like this on Earth.’

He visited landmarks such as the pink lakes of Esperance, the Ningaloo Reef, Wave Rock – a rock that looks like a giant breaking wave – and the alien landscape of the Bungle Bungle Range with its beehive-shaped sandstone towers.

But one episode of Bill Bailey’s Wild Western Australia was filmed in civilisation as he sampled Perth's buzzing food scene and visited the nearby Margaret River wine region.

Programme-makers Perpetual Entertainment say: ‘Bill’s journey will take him along the world’s longest state coastline (20,000km) passing though 5 climates zones as he travels from the dense pine forests and historic settlements of the deep south, to the tropical paradise and desert wastelands of the arid north.’

A trailer says: ‘If you think you know Australia, think again. Because there's an even wilder and more wonderful version of the land down under –and it's in the West. Bill Bailey will take you there.’

The series will also air on ABC in Australia.
