Stefano Paolini
Runner-up in Channel 4's So You Think You're Funny award in 2001 and in BBC's New Comedy Award in 2002, impressionist and beatboxer Stefano Paolini is now a regular on the UK comedy circuit.
He has provided voices for Channel 4's animated series Bromwell High, BBC 2's Double Take and on Radio 4's Dead Ringers, and made his Edinburgh debut with the one man show Britalian, about his half-English, half-Italian heritage in 2005.

Stefano Paolini supporting Al Pitcher's Picture Show

As a second-generation Italian immigrant, Stefano Paolini understandably bases much of his act on the gap between his parents’ culture and his own. Admittedly, some of this takes the most obvious route of simply mimicking their accents – but he has the vocal talents to pull off these mini-characterisations with aplomb.
He’s also a pretty mean beatboxer, which never fails to please a crowd, and in one of his best moments combines this with a typically playful take on one enduring Italian stereotype, with a gangsta rap song as if performed by a tight-lipped Mafioso.
His is an evocatively light-hearted look at his family and national culture, and what it’s like to be an underachieving thirtysomething still living at home with his quirky parents. It makes the routine more about witty imagry than killer punchlines, so expect an amiably amusing ramble, rather than a comic romp that puts your sides at risk But he’s a personable guide through his own situation, even if the approach is relatively low-key.
When he works away from the personal and in more universal territory, however, the comparative weakness of the writing is more exposed, and the set notably lulls. An observational routine about how to tell whether someone’s posh or not is a stand-out, but the rest is rather ordinary.

Saw Stefano last night in Watford, he was brilliant. One of the best London comedians I've seen since Micky Flanagan. Wish he had some of his material on YouTube so I could show my friends how good he is. Star for the future in sure.

Stefano (The Britalian) Paolini was brilliant on the Jongleurs comedy tour last night in Huddersfield. 4.5 stars out of 5. In front of a recession hit, not-so-packed (Father's Day) audience his storytelling humour mixed with impressions were superb…check out The Brilliant Britalian.

He was on fire last night off the Strand. Just fantastic. The jokes were subtle and clever and his impersonations right on the money. He's so smiley too. An awesome night!

Stefano is amazing - I've seen him several times now and he never fails to surprise and please the audience with his original mix of wit, impressions and even beatboxing - unusual, intelligent set

Stafano did a middle 20min set at LaughterBox last Thursday: he is a real crowd pleaser - very funny material enhanced with hilarious character voices and impressions.
Vicky - 31/05/2009
This guy was amazing, i was crying with laughter all the way through! Easily the best of the night!
Michael Monkhouse - 30/10/2008
Real rollercoaster of an act, unmissable!
Nicola Jones - 02/04/2007
A superb talent! A seemingly natural comic with the added bonus of a tremendous skill for impersonations. I'll certainly look out for him on the comedy circuit again.
Prashant - 20/12/2006
I have seen him a few times now and think he's hilarious, I challenge anyone to not laugh at his Al Pacino talking to Robert De Niro joke, the facial impressions and voices are hilarious! Another classic is his Star Wars rap using their main characters, totally talented and I'd pay to see him again too
Matt Coughlan - 29/04/2006
Although his Mc'ing, impressions and beatboxing were top notch it felt a very dated act and even though I'm 24 and used to be a big garage and drum and bass fan he lost the older audience completley. If he could freshen up he would be interesting to watch

Saw him at the fringe and thought he was clever, funny and honest. He wasn't up his own arse which was refreshing.
James - 21/02/2005
He was awful - had a cold, and really didn't seem like he wanted to be there. It seems he's tried to include everything in his act, but nothing works (especially the very ordinary beatboxing - bring on Killa Kela!)
Jug - 11/09/2004
Absolutely ace.
Richard Cracknell - 11/07/2004
Saw him last night at Jongleurs and was impressed, some material really hit as much as some really missed, but he does have the makings of a very good comic. The fact that a relatively new lad to the scene is brave enough to go with his own material and act that doesn't lend well to comedy and manage to make it work speaks volumes of his potential and talent.
Theresa - 20/05/2004
He was hilarious. My friends and me were all very impressed with his beatbox act, especially when he combined it with politics.
Steve - 15/04/2004
I have had the misfortune to see this guy three times, every time his act was the same and every time he only just managed to avoid dying on his arse, it's rare that I dont like a comedian in any way, but stefano, you're it.
Peter Bertorelli - 12/11/2003
Absolutely brilliant, he had the whole room in stiches.
Steve W - 21/10/2003
Absolutely brilliant. Me and my mates have been talking about him all day after seeing him last night.
Saz - 22/07/2003
Great impressions and beat box.
Bobby - 02/07/2003
Pissed myself. Brilliant
Sean Garner - 02/06/2003
From previous comments I would say that he hasn't changed his material in a year but he was very enjoyable on the night.
Anvil - 08/05/2003
Paolini's humour is a refreshing point in any comedy evening. He can joke, satirise and do that amazing beat box thing. That gives him the edge on so many comics because it enables him to be entertaining while getting the laughs.
Microsoftie - 06/01/2003
I don't get it. I saw him get a horrendous reception at a large comedy club over three years ago with this exact same gauche mix of well-drawn but now dated impressions, with what is a juvenile, and in comedy circles, incompatible, obsession, which made for a clumsy set. Beatbox never quite became the next big thing in stand-up and with good reason: it 's not inherently funny. His impressions are impressive but unsophisticated and he should seriously consider removing the beatbox, it's asking too much of comedy audiences.
Ikobe - 21/09/2002
Saw Stefano on BBC New Comedy Awards Deserved first prize in my opinion. Will never get over the Bart thing.
Shirley - 21/09/2002
Watched Mr Paolini on the BBC New Comedy Awards - he stole the show
Matt - 10/08/2002
Clever impressions, but weak material. Is being able to reproduce the sound of a beatbox or impersonating the Simpsons all that funny? Nah.
Karen Bayley - 25/07/2002
Great to see an impressionist with strong material. Very funny.
Ron Teichman - 24/07/2002
Saw him last Thursday at the Buzz Cub and lauged for his full set - a real joy to watch
