Latitude announces its 2023 comedy headliners

Plus full supporing bill

Ed Gamble, Bridget Christie, Sara Pascoe and Romesh Ranganathan has been announced as the headliners of this year’s Latitude Festival.

They will be playing the 2,000-capacity Comedy Arena in the picturesque grounds of Henham Park, Suffolk, on July 20 to 23.

Ranganathan joked: ‘I thought I would never do a festival gig again, but the opportunity to play Latitude as a comedian and hip hop party host, plus a substantial fee have changed my mind.’

Gamble previously MCed Latitude’s tiny Comedy Shed back in 2012 – where the acts he introduced included his future Off-Menu co-host  James Acaster.

Gamble said: ‘Last time I was at Latitude I peed in a bottle in my tent and kicked it over in the night, so I’m delighted to return for an even better time.’

Meanwhile, Christie, who previously headlined in 2018, said, ‘Some festivals give you nightmares and PTSD, but performing at Latitude makes you feel good about yourself - not like someone who has been pretending to be a comedian for years who somehow managed to get on stage. Anyway, slightly worried about how my left-wing material on the menopause, the Tories and veganism is going to land at Latitude, but I'm sure I'll be OK! I hope so anyway because this is always the festival that loads of parents from school and my family go to.'

And Pascoe said: ‘I’m polishing my sequins in anticipation for the joyful atmosphere of the Comedy Arena. Can’t wait to get back to the best place in the world to do jokes outside!’

The full comedy line-up announced today also includes Fern Brady, Shaparak Khorsandi, Kerry Godliman, Ed Byrne, Suzi Ruffell, Rosie Holt, Russell Kane, Thanyia Moore and Laura Lexx

Plus there’s Sikisa, Brennan Reece, Laura SmythOlga Koch,  Amy Gledhill, Finlay Christie, Anthena Kugblenu, Michelle De Swarte, Joe Sutherland, Kyrah Gray and Stuart McPherson, Daniel Foxx, Daman Bamrah, Joshua Bethania and Mary O’Connell.

And the festival is again showcasing new talent with a line-up of the finalists of this year’s Chortle Student Comedy Award.

Latitude has also added new names to its music line-up today,  including James playing in the Sunday lunchtime ‘icon’ slot complete with a 20-piece orchestra and a gospel choir. They join the previously announced Pulp, Paolo Nutini and  George Ezra.

Tickets are available here.
