Plastic Cowboys: Growing Nowhere

Review by Steve Bennett

This nostalgic and cute trip down memory lane depicts the exploits of the typical ten-year old.

Birthday parties, over-protective mothers, schoolyard crushes and bogies. Timmy (any relation to Viz's spoilt bastard?) is the main character who charts the sometimes unsavoury experiences of childhood friendships, swapping Batman cards, foreign rich kids and starting a new school.

The trio play a myriad of characters - a sinister school nurse, a neurotic headmaster, a fat boy and Simon, Timmy's unseen alter-ego who forces him into a series of unfortunate and socially unacceptable situations such as dancing around in his underpants with cake smeared all over. Funny to watch, if a tad predictable.

The trio are wide-eyed and bushy-tailed and appear fresh out of school themselves, albeit drama school.

The sketches are well executed and they clearly have a talent and a flair for acting but a lot of the material appeared to be very basic observations of pre-adolescent fumblings, and the whole thing ran out of steam well before the anticlimactic finale.
