Daft Johnny Vader – Original Review

Review by Steve Bennett

It's something of a surreal sight seeing Darth Vader crack mother-in-law gags, but that's exactly what you get here.

OK, it's a stupid gimmick but mostly this entertaining act manages to work the best out of it, despite a couple of unfortunate and predictable 'helmet' gags and real groaners of puns.

In fact, the comic behind the mask, seems better than the novelty act he's gone with. The jokes are all cleverly set-up and beautifully delivered, and he could quite easily hold the audience's attention without posing as the omnipotent lord of all evil.

Choosing such a warm, loveable stage persona as Darth Vader will no doubt prove a passport to a great many gigs, helping to get his career off the ground, but he may well find it too limiting in the long run.
