Tim Minchin has joked that he’d like to write a sequel to Jesus Christ Superstar, all about the aftermath of the gospels.
The comedian and musical theatre composer behind Matilda and Groundhog Day was asked about his future plans when he appears on Radio X this morning.
He told host Chris Moyles: ‘I really want to write a new musical. But I need your ideas.
‘I very rarely come across a story or a property, as they say, a book or a movie where I think, "Yeah, that has to be a musical".
‘I wondered about Jesus Christ Superstar 2. Like, the aftermath."
‘So, Judas is dead, Jesus is dead. It’s just Saul of Tarsus going nuts and spreading the word. And he’s a pretty interesting cat, Saul of Tarsus, who became Paul on the road to Damascus. I mean, "road to Damascus" in itself is a lyric, isn’t it? Lin-Manuel Miranda should write that…’
