Jim Gaffigan launches his own bourbon
American stand-up Jim Gaffigan is diversifying away from comedy to launch his first bourbon, Fathertime.
The new whisky was created from scratch 'with no corporate or investor backing', with Gaffigan saying: 'I put up my own money and sampled hundreds of barrels because I wanted to create something that I enjoyed drinking, that would be a beautiful addition to anyone’s bar, and would make a great Father’s Day gift.'
He added: 'I’m (obviously) not a bourbon expert. But I did do my research and I know what I like. I hand-picked all the bourbon in each autographed bottle of Fathertime. And no, there isn’t some big spirit company behind this adventure. It’s just me and a buddy from college. We got tons of help from smart bourbon people and we’re proud of what we’ve created. We hope you enjoy drinking it as much as we do.'
He has launched the brand with a video appealing to the three in ten men diagnosed with 'fatherhood'... though a payoff at the end points out the inherently sexist marketing:
Gaffigan is not the only comic to have launched their own alcohol lines recently, including Bert Kreischer & Tom Segura's Por Osos vodka and Mark Normand & Sam Morril's Bodega Cat whiskey, Meanwhile Ricky Gervais has invested in the distillery that makes Dutch Barn Orchard Vodka and has frequent;y plugged it to his 15million followers on X.
