Rent a place at the Edinburgh Fringe for £1,100

...a parking place, that is

Think accommodation is expensive at the Edinburgh Fringe?  Well, you could be paying more than £1,100 just for a car parking space for the month.

YourParkingSpace – which allows homeowners to rent out such spots – says its top earner is raking in £1,173 for August.

Although they say that is made up of multiple short-term bookings, a central slot currently being advertised costs £800 from August 2 to 27, the run for most show. Although you could park near the Haymarket station for £252.

However, YourParkingSpace says spaces can be had for as little as £2.50 for a full day. When Chortle searched for a 12-hour stint from 9am on Saturday August 5th, the cheapest we could find was £4. But that was in Leith.

The news comes amid Edinburgh Council’s rollout of its controlled parking zones  making it even more difficult for festival-goers to find parking near the main venues.

One local homeowner, identified only as Brian, made just over £400 during the festival last year. He said: ‘The extra income which came in during the festival period was great… it does help in these challenging times.’

Brannan Coady chief executive of YourParkingSpace praised the ‘success story of Edinburgh homeowners’.
