Comic gets another six points for his collection

comedy Omid Djalili is more than £1,000 out of picked after being caught speeding at 47pm in a 20mph zone.

The comedian is said to have told the PC that he was in a rush as he was desperate for a wee.

Ayyaz Gul told Bromley magistrates court that after showing the comic the reading on his speed gun: ‘I asked for his driving licence and he asked me to be quick as he needed to go to the toilet.’

The court heard how the stand-up was clocked driving his luxury Lexus on Albany Street on the edge of Regent’s Park in London in November 2022.

He was fined £660, ordered to pay a £264 victim surcharge plus £100 in costs, as well as getting six penalty points on his licence, the London Evening Standard reports.

Djalili, 57, was not in court.

But it’s not the first time his driving has got him into trouble. He was given a £200 fine in March last year for speeding near Gatwick Airport; received a £1,300 penalty in 2013 for speeding on the M4; and in 2008  lost his licence after racking up more than 12 penalty points.

In 2022 he told a podcast how he once amassed a ’record’ 54 points on his licence, blaming the amount of  driving he does for work.

Speaking on the Andy Jaye podcast, he explained how his attempts to make light of his record  while up in court fell on deaf ears.

‘The judge said to me, "Mr Djalili you have 36 points on your licence and another 18 pending, which takes you to up to 54, which is a UK record currently. We're going to ban you from driving for six months, do you have anything to say?’

‘I said, "Could you give me a lift to the station your honour?’"The judge said, "That's not funny."

‘I actually dropped my head, I've never  dropped my head after a gag.’

The comic was once the face of Moneysupermarket.com, whose products include car insurance.

Tonight Djalili is hosting a Suffolk Stands with Turkey and Syria charity gig at the Regent Theatre in Ipswich – where he now lives  – alongside Seann Walsh and Paul Chowdhry. Tickets are still available here.
