Dan Atkinson says he's had marriage proposals

comedyComedian Dan Atkinson has been revealed as the man who coined the phrase ‘Wagatha Christie’.

The stand-up says he's been joking offered a knighthood, hada marriage proposal and been asked to be Prime Minister all on the strength of his pun to described how Coleen Rooney outed Rebekah Vardy for leaking stories about her to the press.

The phrase went viral soon after Atkinson – who is also a producer on Sky One's The Russell Howard Hour – tweeted it at 11.16am on Wednesday.

But he managed to make a spelling mistake, dubbing her ‘WAGagtha Christie’ – with the superfluous extra ‘g’.

‘My first thought when I saw it trending was, "I wish I had spelt it correctly",’ Atkinson admitted to the Mirror.

‘As far as I know I was the first person on this one. Pretty funny really for a four-word tweet’.

The tweet ended up attracting almost 4,000 retweets and more than 23,000 likes.

Coleen, the wife of ex-England captain Wayne used her detective skills to find who had been leaking stories to The Sun.

She made her Instagram account private, limiting who could see it to just Vardy’s account, then posted some false information which found its way into the tabloid.

Vardy has denied being responsible.
