I'm just like the Simpsons: 32 years old and should have been cancelled long ago
Grant Buse shares his Perfect Playlist
Fringe comedian Grant Buse on some of his comedy favourites.
The Simpsons
My career is just like the Simpsons. I’m 32 years old and should have been cancelled a long time ago.
In Australia, The Simpsons was on every weeknight at 6pm. I watched it religiously. Sure, many of the adult references went right over my head but I attribute the majority of my pop culture and historical knowledge to this yellow, four-fingered family. Some people study ancient Greek authors - I studied Homer.
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Do you respect wood? If you do - you should watch Curb Your Enthusiasm. If you don’t - try Seinfeld.
I was very late to Larry David party but over lockdown I watched all 12 seasons of Curb. Sure I could have been doing more productive things with my time but do I regret it - nope! You won’t either.
Bo Burnham - Inside
During the pandemic some comics took a break, some comics pivoted into a new podcast no one asked for and one comic locked himself inside a room and created a masterpiece of comedy. I made a podcast.
Mean Girls
‘Don’t have sex. Because you will get pregnant and die.’ Words to live by. So far I’m still alive.
O Holy Night!
The best example of committing to the bit ever recorded. If you can make it to the end you deserve your own applause. I don’t know who created this but it has been on my Christmas playlist every year since I found it (much to the disgust of my guests).
30 Rock
It’s like Saturday Night Live with no sketches but way funnier. I just really like the way she says ‘Ham’.
