Always Be Comedy opens new venue
In the first new pub to be built on Chelsea's King's Road in 100 years
London comedy club Always Be Comedy is opening a new weekly night at The Trafalgar in Chelsea – the first new pub to be built on the King's Road in 100 years.
Promoter and resident compere James Gill says: ‘We're absolutely buzzing about this. The basement room is perfect for comedy. It's exactly the kind of intimate, welcoming space we love to create for both the audience and the comedians.
The Trafalgar is a Grade II listed building that used to be a bank, which has been converted int a pub following a £2.4 million refit by the Three Cheers Pub Co. The company also owns Kennington venue The Tommyfield, where Always Be Comedy runs at least five nights a week, and The Bedford in Balham, home of the long-running Banana Cabaret.
Weekly shows in Chelsea begin on Thursday October 23, with bills including the likes of Joel Dommett, Sophie Duker (pictured), Sam Campbell, Iain Stirling, Desiree Burch, and Sarah Keyworth.
The building is part of the Cadogan Estate. Its chief executive Hugh Seaborn said: ‘Pubs are a central part of community life and we are proud to be reintroducing not just a brilliant pub, but one that will contribute towards Chelsea’s fantastic arts scene with unmissable music, theatre, comedy and performance.’
