Coming out a day before the BBC's

Ricky Gervais has unveiled details of his own show marking 25 years of The Office, to be released a day before the BBC’s own tribute.

Co-stars Martin Freeman and Mackenzie Crook are looking back at the groundbreaking sitcom on BBC Two on Thursday, but neither Gervais nor fellow co-creator Stephen Merchant are involved.

Instead, Gervais is putting out a programme on YouTube on Wednesday, looking back at his top 25 David Brent moments and offering ‘exclusive and never-before-told stories’.

The comic has been busy building his audience on the site, including regular Sunday evening livestreams, interacting with his 740,000 subscribers. 

Gervais said: ’I’m absolutely loving building my YouTube channel. It’s the best way to interact with my wonderful fans without leaving the house and actually bumping into any of those weirdos.’

His show looking back the The Office drops at 6pm on Wednesday and promises to share the ‘inspiration behind iconic lines, scenes that nearly couldn't be filmed due to uncontrollable laughter on set, and his personal insight into the mind of one of the most legendary characters in British comedy history’.

Meanwhile, Chortle can reveal that Gervais’s wealth swelled by more than £5million in the last year.

Newly filed accounts at Companies House show that the assets held in his firm Red Lion 100 Limited grew from £19.8million to £24.9million in the 12 months to the end of March this year.

The company has no employees and Gervais as its only director.
