Allo Allo game unearthed

Listen very carefully, you will play zis only once...

comedyA long-lost 8-bit computer game based on Allo Allo has been unearthed – and released as a free PC download.

The platformer was released for the Commodore Amiga in 1993 – with a version also written for PCs, although it is uncertain whether this was officially made available .

In it, players take control of cafe owner Rene Artois on a mission to recover stolen paintings with the aid of various non-playable characters from the comedy who throw objects or distracting enemies.

For example, Edith will begin singing, with her awful voice stunning nearby guards. In two-player mode the second gamer plays as waitress Michelle.

The website Games That Weren’t has now tracked down the original master discs for the PC version and released them for free.

The site says: ‘The game also features some nice cartoony touches, such as comic style hit effects and recognisable character designs that mirror the TV show quite well.

‘The reviews seemed quite harsh – it is quite a fun little platformer, and has converted well to PC.’

According to one source, the game, made by a company called Alternative Software, was reviewed by PC Action and PC Gamer in 1994, with scores of 26 per cent and 38 per cent accordingly.
