As series two starts filming

Monica Dolan has joined the supporting cast for the second series of the BBC's Middlesbrough-based comedy Smoggie Queens.

However, it’s not yet clear what role the  Sherwood and Mr Bates vs The Post Office star – who is from the town – will play in Phil Dunning’s comedy.

Lazy Susan’s Freya Parker and Big Mood’s Amalia Vitale also join the cast as filming gets under way on the second series.

Dunning plays lead character Dickie with Mark Benton, Alexandra Mardell, Patsy Lowe and Elijah Young all returning as the close-knit friends.

Also returning are Drag Race star Michelle Visage, actors Charlotte Riley , Bill Fellows and Michael Hodgson,  TV presenter Steph McGovern and more.

Dunning says: ‘I'm so happy to see so many of the Smoggie family returning for Series 2, and over the moon to welcome the incredibly talented newbies. Can't wait to make TV and eat parmos with all of them.’

The six new half-hour episodes are being made by Hat Trick Productions, for BBC Three and iPlayer.
