Jack Docherty films a second series of The Chief

With Dougray Scott making a cameo

Jack Docherty is to reprise his role as Chief Commissioner Cameron Miekelson for a second series of BBC Scotland sitcom The Chief.

It has also been announced that the new season will feature a one-off cameo appearance from Hollywood superstar Dougray Scott, playing a version of himself undertaking a personal project for Scotland’s top cop.

As filming on the new four-part series starts in Glasgow, Docherty said: ‘I can’t wait to once again don the uniform of Scotland’s finest crime-fighting legend, law enforcer, justice dispenser, hero, icon. It’s a privilege to play a character as modest and handsome as Chief Commissioner Cameron Miekelson.

‘This series I’m delighted that Dougray Scott will be guest-starring. The Scottish public have longed to see these two giants of acting together on screen. Well the wait is over. We’re going toe to toe. Finally. Like DeNiro and Pacino in Heat.’

Meanwhile, Scott said: ‘I am very much looking forward to spending time with The Chief. He’s a legend in his own lunchtime, a justice seeker of gargantuan proportions and outrageously funny… without realising it.

'I may have worked in Hollywood with A-listers but starring alongside The Chief might be one of my most challenging roles to date.’

Docherty also writes the series, a spin-off from Scot Squad that follows Miekelson both at work and at home.

The second series sees the return of cast regulars including Lorraine McIntosh as Miekelson’s estranged wife Barbara and Eilidh Loan as his rebellious daughter, Ellen, plus Carmen Pieraccini, Dylan Bore and Lana Pheutan as police officers.

Fags, Mags And Bags star Sanjeev Kohli also joins the cast, playing an MSP putting pressure on the chief.

The Chief is produced by Rab Christie and directed by Iain Davidson for The Comedy Unit.

Christie said: ‘We are thrilled to be producing this new series of The Chief. It is a total delight to work with Jack Docherty and the terrific team involved in the show and we're excited to get out and about capturing Scotland's top cop's latest adventures.’

Gavin Smith, who is executive producer for BBC Scotland,  added: ‘BBC Scotland is delighted to be firing up the blue flashing light for a second time and welcoming The Chief back to our screens. Rumours that Chief Commissioner Cameron Miekelson furnished the commissioning team with a new set of golf clubs from the evidence lockers are entirely unfounded.’

Docherty will also be bringing The Chief to the Edinburgh Fringe next month, with his show  Still No Apologies playing at Gilded Balloon at Appleton Tower from August 1 to 17.
