Andrew Lawrence: I'm going to make a fortune over my Liverpool parade joke
Comic doubles down with even more sick comments
Andrew Lawrence has boasted about how his bad-taste joke about the Liverpool parade horror will boost his income.
After receiving a huge backlash for his social media post about the car that ploughed through a crowd of football supporters, the ostracised comedian doubled down with a video attacking the people of Liverpool.
And he made another joked about Monday’s incident, saying: ‘It's a shame that Liverpool parade crackhead wasn't driving a tank.’
The crash injured dozens of fans heading towards Liverpool FC's Premier League celebrations, with six people still in hospital.
But in a new video Lawrence said it wasn’t a tragedy but a ‘farce’, branding the incident a ‘clown show of Scouse retards from start to finish’.
The comments – in a two-minute social media video accompanied by a plea for people to pledge financial support on Patreon – levelled is insult not just at the driver, but the police overseeing the parade and the football fan who tried to break the car’s back window in a bid to stop it.
Lawrence said: ‘A grand total of two people were seriously injured, both of whom are going to make a full recovery, and yet a lot of Scousers are acting like they've just been through the Holocaust.
‘Because as everyone knows, the one thing Liverpool is absolutely world-class at is playing the victim. The other thing about Scousers is that they famously have absolutely no sense of humour about themselves or their city, despite imagining themselves to be the funniest people on God's Earth.
‘Yet if you go to Liverpool and make horrible jokes about Manchester, they'll lap it up like flies on hot dog shit because they're filthy hypocrites. They'll be watching this video absolutely seething, which makes it all the more enjoyable.’
He made further comments about Liverpudlians 'screeching in their dirty accents’ and being ‘thin-skinned and brittle’ – saying their bid to cancel his live sows were in vain as he just ended his live tour.
However the last date – in Southend, Essex – was pulled over the backlash to his original joke, in which Lawrence said: ‘To be fair, if I was in Liverpool, I'd drive through crowds of people to get the fuck out of there as well.'
In today’s video, the stand-up said of those offended by his joke: ‘Due to them leaving thousands of comments and viewing my posts millions of times, my creator income from X this month is going to be enormous.
‘I'm talking about proper money, Liverpool, not what you're getting on Universal Credit.
‘Nonetheless, I understand you're annoyed at me and you'd want an apology so here it is: I'm sorry i'm sorry you emotionally inconstant crybabies don't understand what a joke is.’
The original post has been viewed 5.5million times on X and attracted more than 8,600 comments.
Lawrence has long been cancelled by most of the comedy scene over racist and sexist posts, but the latest controversy is likely to close more doors.
After the furore Liverpool’s Hot Water Comedy Club said they would not be booking him ever again.
In a social media post, they said: ‘We love this city – its people, its humour, its strength. We work with brilliant comedians from across the UK and beyond, and we believe in the power of comedy to challenge, uplift, and connect – not to target people in moments of real pain.
‘Today, Andrew Lawrence made a vile attempt at a joke about a tragic incident here in Liverpool. That’s not comedy. It’s cruelty, plain and simple Mocking a hurting community says far more about him than it ever could about this city.
‘He is not welcome at any of our events or venues. His name will never appear on a bill associated with us. His brand of cruelty has no place in the kind of comedy we stand for.
‘Promoters and comedians who continue to book or share a stage with him should think carefully about what that says to audiences. If you’re standing by him, you’re standing against everything this industry should represent.
‘Our heartfelt thoughts are with everyone affected by what happened yesterday. Liverpool stands together.’
It came after the Hillsborough Survivors Support Alliance calling him ‘an embarrassment to the comedic profession’, adding: ‘Can we make sure this person never works in Liverpool, absolutely disgusting.’
Lawrence had been due to perform his tour show, Still On The Naughty Step at Caddies in Southend on June 15. But Jokers Comedy Club pulled the gig ‘within an hour of seeing the tweet’.
The venue posted a note saying: ‘The event organisers who had hired our Comedy Club for the Andrew Lawrence night have cancelled the event. We do not condone or support the comment that has been made online, and we send everyone impacted by the tragic events in Liverpool our support and prayers.’
Lawrence accused the venue of ‘losing their courage’ after being ‘bombarded with abuse and threats of violence from online trolls’.
The number of people injured in the incident has climbed to 79, and a 53-year-old remains in custody having been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and other offences. Police were quick to identify the suspect as a white British man, a decision which Lawrence said would fuel ‘anti-white racism’.
The stand-up was ostracised by most of the comedy circuit in 2014 following a series of controversial statements sympathising with Ukip and criticising ‘women-posing-as-comedians’ on panel shows.
And during the Euros final in 2021, he posted: ‘Equality, diversity, shit penalties. All I'm saying is, the white guys scored.’ When criticised, he said he was sorry, ’Sorry that black guys are bad at penalties.’
The comic describes his humour of being ‘unflinching, uproarious [and] political’ and has previously complained about being ‘stitched up by the woke Stasi'.
