Troops learn stand-up and improv
12-week course for military personnel to develop new skills
Britain’s military forces are being taught stand-up comedy and improv.
Serving personnel and veterans are taking part in the 12-week scheme in Plymouth, designed to ‘build confidence, develop new skills, and experience the therapeutic power of laughter’.
Programme Manager Becky Ormrod said: ‘This is a fantastic opportunity to offer a creative outlet for people with a shared background.
‘The Armed Forces Comedy Club is all about building camaraderie and creating a sense of community, and sharing the feel-good factor that comes with comedy, laughter and performance.’
The first six weeks at the Theatre Royal Plymouth will focus on improvisation, led by local teacher and performer Sam Morgan, followed by a six-week term about stand-up led by comic Suzy Bennett, pictured.
It will also be supported by Royal Marine turned actor Tip Cullen, and each term will culminate in a celebratory gig for friends and family.
The course kicked off on Wednesday.
